Big Fourth Quarter Leads Men's Lax to Fifth-Straight Win

HAVERFORD, PA (March 9, 2024) – Led by a statement performance from Jozef Korpics in goal, Susquehanna men's lacrosse stretched their win streak to five with a 10-9 victory over Haverford College on Saturday afternoon.

After taking an early 2-1 lead in the first quarter, Susquehanna doubled their advantage in the second with a pair of goals, including an empty-netter from just around midfield from Noah Trala, before Nick Remund scored on a man-up situation on an assist from Steven Musser. It would be one of three goals for Remund.

Haverford struck back in the final three minutes of the first half, scoring with 2:46 to go and again with 31 seconds left, cutting the River Hawks' lead to just one going into the halftime break. Out of the break, the third quarter would be a back-and-forth affair as Brenna Lorence netted his first goal of the day before Haverford scored three straight to take their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. Now trailing 6-5, SU got to work late in the third quarter, with Lorence scoring on another man-up opportunity, this one assisted by Kieran Thomas. The Fords reclaimed the lead just thirty seconds later prior to the end of the third quarter, but Susquehanna put together a resounding response in the final quarter.

Lorence tied the game back up on a Jack Gaillard dish with 10:37 to go, before upping his goal tally to four on the day a few minutes later. Meanwhile, backed by strong defense and some excellent saves from Korpics, Susquehanna held Haverford off the board for more than 15 minutes of game time from the end of the third through most of the fourth quarter. Remund scored two goals in less than a minute to add to Lorence's tally, making the score 10-7 with 2:17 remaining in the game. Haverford did not go quietly, scoring two goals in twenty seconds to get back within one goal, but could not find a tying goal in the final 42 seconds.

Korpics finished the day with 14 saves, a season-high tally for the senior. After only netting once in the River Hawks midweek game against Immaculata, Lorence was back in strong goalscoring form with four, while Remund's three brings the sophomore up to ten goals on the young season.

Now 5-1 overall, Susquehanna has just two non-conference games left before beginning Landmark Conference play. They'll face a stiff test in their next game, hosting Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, March 13 at 4 pm. The visiting Dutchmen sit just outside the top 20 in the most recent USILA DIII National Poll.
