SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna women's tennis embraced a back-and-forth Landmark Conference weekend, beginning with hosting Lycoming Saturday in a narrow 5-4 defeat and a 9-0 shutout defeat at Catholic Sunday.
The River Hawks also endured a windy Saturday on their home courts when facing the Warriors. Despite these challenges the one doubles team of
Julie Bramley and
Isabella Scappaticci won handily 8-0 over Emma Kelchner and Emily Wolfgang. The two team of
Alexa Wanamaker and
Katelyn Richter nearly pulled it out in the two doubles match, but ultimately dropped an 8-6 match to Rei Saar and Sarah Lanphear.
The singles matches were an even split as Susquehanna took wins in the top two matches courtesy of Bramley and Scappaticci. Bramley again won handily over Wolfgang at one, 6-0 and 6-1, while Scappaticci needed three sets to defeat Kelchner in a rematch, overcoming a 6-3 defeat in set one to take the next two, 7-5 and 6-1.
Katherine Yoder pulled out the win at five singles over Greta Kimble 6-2 and 6-4. Lycoming posted comfortable wins at three and four singles, leaving it up to the six singles matchup between
Daniella Walker and Abigail Ebel. Walker won the first frame in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8), but Ebel stole the momentum with a pair of 6-1 matches to win it for Lycoming.
At Catholic in D.C. Sunday the Cardinals swept the doubles contests by respective 8-2, 8-2, and 8-0 scores. The closest matchup in the singles was at three, where
Alexa Wanamaker refused to go down quietly against Mairead O'Hara. Following a 6-3 first-set defeat, Wanamaker battled tight in set two in hopes of extending the affair, only for O'Hara to edge it out 7-5. Scappaticci also had a matchup of note at set two, playing a close first frame against Jane Krukiel in the first set, although the latter took the frame by a 6-4 score and 6-2 in the next to clinch the victory.
The River Hawks have four more matchups in the regular season, all at home, with Landmark matchups against Juniata April 24 and Goucher April 25, followed by non-conference meeting with McDaniel April 27 as part of Senior Day and King's (Pa.) April 28.
