Susquehanna Women's Lacrosse Goes Head-to-Head with Catholic

SELINSGROVE, PA (April 3, 2024) - The Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team lost to the Catholic University Cardinals 15-7 Wednesday afternoon to fall to 1-2 in Landmark Conference play.

Susquehanna was looking to bounce back after the defeat last Thursday night to Moravian, but it was the Cardinals who got off to a hot start. Catholic jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first period as they outshot the River Hawks 11-1 while forcing eight turnovers.

Catholic add another goal early in the second period, but Susquehanna responded with four straight goals in a span of three minutes, two each from Emma Kelleher and Liv Owen, to make it 7-4 with 6:37 to go in the half and give the River Hawks some life. The Cardinals stopped the bleeding with another goal with just over a minute remaining to make it 8-4 going into halftime.

In the third Catholic once again set a tone early, scoring four goals in a span five minutes to get their largest lead of the game at 12-4 at the 10:00 mark. Kelleher scored her third of the game over a minute later and Hannah McNamara got on the board five minutes later to make it 13-6 Cardinals going into the fourth.

In the fourth Catholic tacked on another two goals, while Susquehanna tallied one, Kelleher's fourth of the game, to bring it to the final of 15-7. Kelleher and Owen each had strong games with Kelleher finishing with four goals and one assist, and Owen finished with two goals and two assists. Susquehanna also dominated draw controls with 17 to Catholic's eight. However, what doomed the River Hawks were the turnovers as they finished with 25 on the day and outshot by Catholic 31-17.

The defeat drops Susquehanna to 7-4 on the year and they will be on the road for their next game against Lycoming College Saturday April 6. The game will start at 1 p.m.
