SELINSGROVE, PA (April 6, 2024) – The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team defeated the Lycoming College Warriors 15-5 to remain undefeated in Landmark Conference play with a 4-0 record.
The first half was a defensive struggle and the first period set the tone with great goaltending for both sides. Susquehanna's
Jozef Korpics had four saves while Ben Franco had five saves for Lycoming. However, Susquehanna manufactured a bit more offense with goals from
Brennan Lorence,
Steven Musser, and
Kieran Koenke to take a 3-1 lead.
The second was even lower scoring with just two goals scored the entire period, but both came from Susquehanna midfielder
Nick Remund. Korpics continued to shine in net, keeping the Warriors off the board in the period while saving six shots to reach double-digit saves as the River Hawks led 5-1 at halftime.
To start the second half, the River Hawks made an early statement, scoring all three of their goals in the third period in the first six minutes. Musser scored his second of the game, while
Matthew Faggioli and
Pat McDermott joined the action. Susquehanna outshot Lycoming 14-9 overall in the period to take an 8-2 lead with one period left.
In the fourth period the River Hawk offense put the nail in the coffin as they almost doubled their goal count with seven goals scored. They once again outshot Lycoming 17-13 and Korpics saved another five shots before getting pulled down the final stretch as Susquehanna closed out the win.
Korpics dominated between the pipes allowing just four goals while racking up 18 saves.
Jack Gaillard led the team in points with one goal and five assists. Overall, the Susquehanna offense was balanced with Musser, Lorence, McDermott, and Remund each scored two goals on the afternoon to lead the team. For the game they outshot the Warriors 51-36 and controlled the face offs winning 15 of the 20.
The victory brings Susquehanna to 10-2 on the season, matching their total from last season with five games remaining in the regular season. Their next game is at home against the Juniata College Eagles on Wednesday April 10. It will start at 5 p.m.
