CENTER VALLEY, PA - Susquehanna women's soccer picked up a tie in an away encounter at DeSales on Saturday, September 14th, getting a late equalizer courtesy of a first collegiate goal from
Kalie Quaglia.
The first half came and went with a 9-2 advantage in shots for the Bulldogs, and although the hosts hit the post and forced two saves from
Katie Henchy, neither side got on the scoreboard in the period.
The River Hawks fell behind in the 49th minute when Emma Ribeiro opened the scoring, winning the ball back high up the pitch and finding the back of the net.
Chances came and went for both sides until the 78th minute, when
Maesie Baker received a pass from
Rachel Rinehart and played it over the top of the DeSales defense towards Quaglia, who raced onto the pass and fired the ball past Saige Santa Cruz, the Bulldogs' goalkeeper. Quaglia's goal was the first of her career, while Baker contributed her first career assist.
As time expired, a late chance came for
Gigi Duncan, who put a shot into the side netting, and then with the final kick of the game,
Ava Billmeyer was unable to net the winner as she saw her effort saved.
The River Hawks move to 3-2-1 on the season, unbeaten in their last four games. The final shot battle favored the Bulldogs, who took 15 shots to the visiting River Hawks' nine. DeSales also had an 8-2 edge on corners and a 5-3 edge on shots on target. Henchy made four saves in between the sticks for the River Hawks.
