Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Anthony Heller

Susquehanna, King's Exchange Second-Half Goals in 1-1 Draw

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Susquehanna men's soccer played out an even 1-1 tie with King's (PA) on Tuesday night, scoring and conceding in the second half as the game ended all square. It represented the final test before the Landmark Conference season begins this Saturday.

The River Hawks made two changes from the side that won 1-0 at Immaculata, introducing Tom O'Keefe and Max Paczewski to the starting eleven, in midfield and at forward respectively.

While King's took the first three shots, Susquehanna answered back before the break, as both teams attempted five shots in the first half.

It was Henry McElroy who nearly made the difference, getting played in before beating the goalkeeper, however, his shot was hacked off the line by a Monarch defender in the 61st minute.

Not long after, however, O'Keefe won the ball back high up the pitch and found Angelo Zografos. Zografos picked out Hayden Swinehart on the left flank, who cut inside before drilling a finish into the bottom left corner of the net to put the River Hawks in front in the 67th minute. Zografos picked up his first assist of the season and Swinehart's goal was his fourth, as he leads the Landmark Conference in points with 16 courtesy of four goals and eight assists, as well as the game being the seventh of eight where he has registered either a goal or an assist.

The Monarchs equalized in the 82nd minute, when a cross came in from the right side that found Jackson Nuttall at the far post, who in turn returned the ball towards the top of the six yard box, where Cameron Jones was able to steer a header past Tony Burns.

Burns kept up his strong form throughout the night, however, making six saves. The final shot totals stood at 12 for Susquehanna and 14 for King's, as the River Hawks were led by Paczewski with five, followed by goalscorer Swinehart with three. Clay Yannazzone, O'Keefe, McElroy, and Zografos each contributed with a shot. Both teams committed six fouls, while the River Hawks had six corners to four for the Monarchs.

The next time the River Hawks take the field will be Saturday, when they take on Wilkes at 3:30 PM as their Landmark Conference opener. The game also represents Senior Day, as they will honor their eight seniors.
