O'Keefe Nets Hat-Trick as Men's Soccer Scores Six on Keystone

SELINSGROVE, PA - Tom O'Keefe scored a hat-trick and the senior class accounted for all six goals as Susquehanna men's soccer won their home opener 6-0 over Keystone on Saturday. The River Hawks took the lead in the first minute and never looked back, scoring a trio of goals in each half.

The deadlock was broken 55 seconds into the match when Hayden Swinehart found Max Paczewski, who fired past the Keystone goalkeeper to make it 1-0. The captain's goal was his fifth of the season in just three games.

Two opportunities for the River Hawks came and went before they doubled their tally, with Angelo Zografos seeing a ferocious volley tipped over by Hector Oliva, the man between the sticks for the Giants. Swinehart also saw a shot from a tight angle parried.

Swinehart turned provider again for the second goal, laying a ball off that Paczewski left for O'Keefe to thump into the back of the net in the 13th minute. The third goal came in the 25th minute, when junior Josh Higgins found O'Keefe who hit a volley in for his second goal of the game and of the season.

Going into half-time, the River Hawks had a 12-1 edge on shots, with seven of their shots finding the target. Tony Burns, getting the nod in goal, made one save on the night, coming in the first half.

Swinehart made it four assists in three games just two and a half minutes into the second half, teeing up O'Keefe to finish into the far corner. Parks Ordiway had an opportunity to make it five, but his shot was saved by Oliva.

In the 77th minute, following a corner kick for the Giants, the River Hawks immediately pounced on a counter-attack opportunity, with Ryan Kratzer finding Daniel Hartzell, whose through ball found the feet of Ben Sweeney, whose touch eluded the Keystone stopper and his second touch rolled into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal after having been the provider on four occasions in the past three seasons.

The scoring was completed in the 84th minute, when Khalil McDonald produced his first career assist when he teed up Zach Polovitch to make it six.

The final shot totals were 20 for the River Hawks and two for Keystone, while Burns saved the only Giant shot on target while 11 Susquehanna efforts were on target. Keystone committed 10 fouls to the River Hawks' 11.

Susquehanna men's soccer returns home twice in the next week, once on Tuesday, Sept. 10 for a clash with York (PA) before they take on Shenandoah University in a week's time for a 2 PM kickoff at Sassafras Field.
