Ladies Complete First Meeting with League-Leading Scranton

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball got their first meeting with #2/3 Scranton squared away on Saturday in their own Houts Gymnasium as the Royals left with a 72-45 win. While unbeaten Scranton got out to the early lead and scoring 49 points before halftime, Susquehanna managed several brightspots as Julia Pinckert led the team with 12 points, along with the River Hawks controlling the rebounding battle, 47-35.

The Royals jumped out to a 23-8 lead after one quarter and scored 26 more in the second to lead 49-23. They succeeded with the long ball making 9-of-26 attempts as they finished at 39.7 percent shooting (23-of-58), including 45.0 percent in the opening half (15-of-33). Susquehanna, meanwhile, made four threes off the shooting from Pinckert's 2-of-4 day from behind the arc and one each from Annie Greek and Grace Meehan. The work of the latter two contributed to the River Hawks' leading the Royals in bench points, 20-4, along with making 19-of-30 free throws to Scranton's 17-of-22 from the charity stripe. Greek was second on the team with nine points, while Meehan added five points. Each tallied a team-best seven rebounds alongside Carly George. Pinckert went on to grab five rebounds as Zoie Maffei contributed five points with four rebounds. Scranton's scoring was highlighted by Kaci Kranson's game-high 31 points and nine rebounds, with Meghan Lamanna serving as the team's only other double-digit scorer with 12.

Susquehanna is now 6-7 on the season overall and 3-3 in the Landmark, while Scranton improved to 13-0 and 6-0 in the conference. The River Hawks' next test keeps them at home as they welcome in local-foe Lycoming this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
