WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Susquehanna women's basketball team put on a dominant shooting performance as they defeated Landmark Conference foe Wilkes University on the road Saturday, 83-57. This followed Kenzie Selvaggi's 25 points, her second-highest point total this season, while Carly George helped the River Hawks on the boards as she snagged 11 rebounds, leading the entire contest.
The team jumped out to an early lead, leading the contest after the first quarter with a score of 18-11. The River Hawks gained the lead after a three-point field goal by Selvaggi and never looked back. Heading into the second quarter, the River Hawks jumped out to an 11-point lead, before the Colonels would cut it back to 9, trailing at halftime 37-28. Susquehanna came out of the half hot, as they shot a staggering 43.8% from the field. Susquehanna finished the third quarter taking the biggest lead of the game at that point, 57-43. The shooting clinic continued through the fourth quarter as the River Hawks outshot the Colonels, 50% to 37.5%. The River Hawks finished the game hitting a total of 11 three pointers, including five from Selvaggi, and shooting 29-69 (42.0 percent) from the floor. Wilkes, meanwhile, managed 19-of-61 shooting (31.1 percent) and 4-of-24 on threes.
A total of nine River Hawks produced points on the day. Second to Selvaggi in the points total were nine points by Sydney Weyant and Annie Greek. Julia Pinkert scored eight points and collected seven rebounds, with Lauren Klein also netting eight points off of two made threes with four rebounds. Grace Meehan gathered six rebounds with five assists, while Zoie Maffei registered eight points with six rebounds and one block. First-year Greta Servitto had six points with six rebounds.
The River Hawks improve their record to 8-7 on the season and climb two games above .500 in the Landmark, sitting at 5-3. They head to Juniata to take on the Eagles in a Landmark Conference matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m., then return home on Saturday, Jan. 25 to take on Moravian University at 2 p.m. Susquehanna completes its January schedule as they finish the series against #10/16 ranked Catholic on Wednesday, Jan. 29th in Washington, D.C.
