SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna volleyball team swept Elizabethtown 3-0 Tuesday night to pick up their third Landmark Conference win of the year and remain undefeated in conference play. Tonight's win was also the 100th career win for head coach
Johnny Powell as a college volleyball head coach between his early tenure as SU's head coach and his four years leading Harford Community College.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- The first set was the more competitive of the three, with both teams going back and forth to begin play. The River Hawks eventually found themselves up 9-5, with six of those points coming off kills from four different riverhawks. The Blue Jays were able to come back however, closing the margin by as little as one.
- With the score at 18-17, the River Hawks called a timeout after a three-point run by Elizabethtown. After the timeout, the River Hawks went on to score seven of the next nine points in the set to take the first set 25-19. Back-to-back kills from Sami Kline and Kyndall Mason helped seal the deal for the River Hawks in set 1.
- The second set saw both teams going back and forth again, however the River Hawks were able to blow it open in the middle of the set. The duo of Mason and Kline went for back-to-back kills again and increased the Susquehanna lead 16-8. The River Hawks then went on a five-point run and closed out set 2 25-12 after two attack errors from the Blue Jays.
- Set three was identical to the second set, with a back-and-forth set turning into a dominating performance by Susquehanna. The River Hawks led by as much as 12 in the set, and totalled 14 kills, four service aces and a .316 hitting percentage as a team. Susquehanna duplicated the score from set two and took set three 25-12 to complete the sweep against the Blue Jays.
