Overtime Win at Moravian Grants Coach Fordyce 100th Career Win at Susquehanna

Bethlehem, PA - Susquehanna field hockey tied the game at 2-2 late in their Landmark Conference road matchup Saturday at Moravian to force overtime Four minutes elapsed in the first overtime before Mady Quigley slipped past the defense for the game-winning goal to send the River Hawks to a 5-1 conference record, while head coach Allison Fordyce earned her 100th career win as Susquehanna's head coach. 

How it Happened:
  • A back and forth battle in the opening quarter between the Greyhounds and River Hawks saw almost no offense, that is until Taylor Rothermel received a pass from Gracie Roush, off of the corner taken by Hannah Garlin. Rothermel buried the ball behind Hounds goalkeeper Maia Machado.
  • The offenses both stalled out through the second frame, with both teams playing a defensive battle heading into the break.
  • Moravian struck first in the third period, sending the equalizer into the back of the cage. Less than two minutes later, Moravian was able to take the lead after a Samantha Culver shot found its way past Kylie Schmidt.
  • With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Haley Dreisbach took a shot, connecting to tie the game back up at two all.
  • The game remained tied through the remainder of regulation, sending the game into golden goal overtime.
  • Mady Quigley aimed a shot directed towards Moravian's goalkeeper less than four minutes into extra time, sending the ball back to the back of the cage, winning it for the River Hawks.
  • With today's win over Moravian, head coach Allison Fordyce earns her 100th career win as the River Hawks play caller.
Inside the Box Score:
  • The River Hawks out shot the Greyhounds in every frame, tallying a total of 23 shots on the afternoon, with ten landing on goal. Moravian was able to tally nine shots in total with six landing on goal.
  • Kylie Schmidt tallied three saves during the match, allowing only two goals.
  • The River Hawks were awarded 12 penalty corners, compared to the nine of Moravian.

  • Susquehanna heads to the nation's capital to take on Catholic University on Wednesday, October 22, at 6:00 PM.
  • SU returns home for the remainder of the season after Catholic, returning home for senior day on October 25 at 1:00 PM taking on Lycoming. The season finale is against Goucher College on October 29 at 6:00 PM.
