Women's Soccer Scores Late to Tie Wilkes in Rain-Soaked Matchup

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's soccer wrapped up a rainy Tuesday night match up against Wilkes University in a 2-2 tie. Wilkes held a pair of one-goal leads during the drenched affair, only for Susquehanna to answer right back, the final time with 1:44 to play when Nicole Freiler scored of a long pass from Ava Billmeyer

How it Happened:
  • The Colonels struck early with the first goal of the night, with an awkward shot coming off the foot of Abby Bolz, finding the back of the net. 
  • The River Hawks earned multiple opportunities in the ensuing minutes, before a pass from Ava Billmeyer found the right foot of Sydney Williams. Williams netted SU's first goal of the afternoon, knotting the game back up at one all.
  • The remainder of the first half of play was quiet, with both teams taking shots on goal, and both goalkeepers standing strong in the net.
  • Opening the second half of play, Susquehanna and Wilkes played strong defense against each other with neither team finding a shot on goal until the 60:37 mark of the contest.
  • The River Hawks continued to take opportunities with shots, to no avail.
  • A questionable foul led to the second goal of the contest for Wilkes, with the free kick finding the box, and Jess Shea finding the back of the net. Elena Krajain was credited with the assist.
  • Late in the game a perfect pass down the right sideline sent by Ava Billmeyer found Nicole Freiler, who flipped the ball over the outstretched hands of the Colonels goalkeeper, knotting the game back up with less than two minutes to play.
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final minute of play, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.
Inside the Box Score:
  • The River Hawks outs shot the Colonels during the contest, 15-6. SU tallied nine shots on goal, recording two goals on the night.
  • Katie Henchy earned two saves, allowing only two goals during the contest.
  • SU tallied four corner kicks, compared to their opponents two.
