Women Beat Juniata in Landmark Opener for 4-0 Start, Best Under Holko

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball starts the season 4-0 after a crushing win over Juniata in both teams' Landmark Conference opener Wednesday night in Houts Gymnasium. The River Hawks' perfect start through their first four games marks the best start under head coach Gabby Holko, now in her sixth season.  

How it Happened:
  • From the opening tip-off it was all SU, starting the game on a 5-0 run, forcing the Eagles to take a timeout.
  • The River Hawks continued to put the pressure on in the first quarter, jumping out to an early ten point lead.
  • Julia Roth earned a rebound with mere seconds to go in the first quarter, putting up a lay up for SU, pushing the lead to 25-14 at the sound of the first buzzer.
  • The Eagles cut the SU lead down to five early in the second quarter, before the Susquehanna offense exploded for a 9-0 run.
  • The River Hawks continued their hot offensive streak, pushing their lead all the way to 13 points to end the half. SU led 41-28 at the break.
  • The River Hawks opened the second half of play scoring eight straight points, pushing their lead to insurmountable amounts.
  • Susquehanna jumped out to a 30 point lead late in the third quarter, with Greta Servitto earning the final points for the River Hawks.
  • A low scoring fourth quarter resulted in the Eagles cutting slightly into the lead, cutting the lead to 21 early in the frame.
  • The River Hawks kept their pressure on, making baskets all over the court.
  • SU pushed the lead to their biggest of the game at 37, where the final score ended up being 80-43.
  • SU advances to 4-0 for the first time in head coach Gabby Holko's tenure.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Susquehanna out scored Juniata in every quarter, holding the Eagles to a mere three points in the final frame.
  • Julia Roth continued her comeback season, leading the River Hawks in scoring. Roth finished the afternoon with 15 points and six rebounds.
  • Carly George finished the day with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Zoie Maffei entered double digit scoring for the first time this season.
  • Maffei finished the day with 14 points, pulling down a total of four rebounds.
