Women Run Away at Misericordia, Now 5-1 Entering Thanksgiving Break

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball advanced to 5-1 after their fifth double digit win this season over the Cougars of Misericordia University. The River Hawks have won all five of their games by no less than 19 points as their 57 points Tuesday night was more than enough, while holding Misericorida to a season-low 37 points. 

How it Happened:
  • The Cougars struck first with a short jumper to take the early 2-0 lead. 
  • Carly George netted the first points for SU early in the first quarter, followed up by yet another bucket by the Cougars.
  • There was a total of five lead changes through the first frame, with the River Hawks pulling ahead late off of a Sydney Weyant jump shot. The River Hawks held a slight 16-14 lead heading into the second quarter of play.
  • SU's offense exploded to open the second frame of play, with the River Hawks going on a 5-0 run before the Cougars made a basket.
  • Both team's kept trading baskets, with SU holding a seven point lead with less than four minutes in the second quarter.
  • The SU defense continued to dazzle, as they held the Cougars to a mere two points in the final four minutes of the first half. The River Hawks led 32-22 at the break.
  • The third quarter of play opened with both sides trading baskets, before the Cougars went on their own 5-0 run. Julia Roth stopped the run by nailing a short jump shot off the assist from Carly George.
  • The River Hawks continued to light up the scoreboard, going on yet another scoring run, being topped off by a Zoie Maffei jump shot.
  • Susquehanna led the Cougars 46-33 after the third quarter.
  • The Susquehanna defense held strong throughout the fourth quarter of play, limiting any opportunity that the Cougars had to get back into the game.
  • SU out shot Misericordia 11-4 in the quarter, winning the game 57-37. The win over Misericorida University marks the first time in head coach Gabby Holko's career that the River Hawks have began the season 5-1.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Carly George led all scorers in the contest, netting 16 points, including her second career three pointer. George finished the afternoon coming up just short of the double double opportunity, finishing the contest with eight rebounds.
  • Julia Roth continued to dazzle from any end of the floor, leading a stellar defense against the Cougars. Roth finished the day netting 15 points and nine rebounds. Roth finished one rebound shy of her third double double of the season.
  • Sydney Weyant, Renee Wells, adn Zoie Maffei all netted at least five points for the River Hawks, with Julia Pinckert pulling down seven rebounds.
Up Next for the River Hawks:
  • The River Hawks take a short holiday break before returning to the road to take on Wilkes University in a Landmark Conference match up on December 3. Following the Wilkes date, the River Hawks return home to take on Moravian University on December 6.
