WILKES-BARRE, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball continued to dominate their opponents with a decisive win over the Colonels of Wilkes University on Wednesday, 72-46. The win marks their fifth win by more than twenty points this season as
Julia Roth notched her fourth double-double of the season with ten points and ten rebounds, while
Zoie Maffei delivered a double-double also off the bench with 11 points and 11 boards.
How it Happened:
- Wilkes earned the early lead when Matos drew a foul, making one of two from the free throw line.
- Carly George earned Susquehanna's first basket, driving down the court and netting an easy two point layup.
- The two team continued to trade baskets, resulting in multiple lead changes through the first five minutes of play.
- Late in the first quarter, Zoie Maffei nailed a layup, pushing the first quarter results to a dead even tie at 15 points a piece.
- The start of the second quarter was much of the same from the first frame, with both team's both earning points, keeping the score close.
- Annie Greek nailed a three point shot midway through the quarter, resulting in a seven point lead for the River Hawks.
- SU continued to press their lead, with Maffei earning a basket to break their first double digit lead of the afternoon. The River Hawks entered the first half break leading the Colonels 31-22.
- Wilkes cut the SU lead to three early in the third quarter, before Julia Pinckert pushed it back to five. Greta Servitto tallied a layup of her own, pushing the lead back to seven.
- SU went on a small 5-0 run to end the frame, resulting in a ten point lead for the visiting team. The River Hawks led 42-32 after three quarters of play.
- Servitto entered teh game in the fourth, making the first basket of the quarter.
- The River Hawks continued to push their lead late in the game, when Julia Roth grabbed a pass from Zoie Maffei, resulting in the lead of the contest sitting at 23 points.
- Susquehanna's final points of the afternoon belonged to Zoie Maffei, who pushed the SU lead to 26, resulting in a 72-46 win for the River Hawks.
