SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball opened their season and its own tip-off tournament by defeating the Eagles of Mary Washington, 83-60. The River Hawks advance to the championship game and will face off against Gettysburg on Sunday at 3 p.m.
How it Happened:
- The River Hawks opened the season strong, starting the game on a 13-0 run.
- Mary Washington used a timeout, turning the momentum ever so slightly in their favor.
- Coming out of the timeout, the Eagles added a three to their resume, followed by trading buckets with the River Hawks.
- SU kept their offense hot, as they exited the first frame leading Mary Washington, 21-8.
- Entering the second quarter of play, the River Hawks continued with their offensive stride, pushing their lead to as high as 22.
- Mary Washington kept cutting into the SU lead, but was unable to cut the lead into single digits.
- The Eagles trailed 42-27 at the break.
- The River Hawks came out of the break hot once more, starting the third quarter on a 6-2 run.
- The River Hawks out scored the Eagles throughout the third quarter, 24-11, taking their lead of 28 into the final frame of the afternoon.
- The fourth quarter was more of the same, with the River Hawks pushing their lead to the biggest of the night at 33.
- The Eagles cut into the lead, cutting it down to 20 at one point, before the River Hawks iced the game and won 83-60.
