SELINSGROVE, PA - Sussquehanna women's basketball claimed the first place trophy of their own Tip-Off Tournament after defeating the Bullets of Gettysburg College Sunday afternoon by a 74-56 score. The River Hawks defeated Gettysburg, marking the team's biggest win over a ranked opponent in the Holko era. Along with the hardware,
Annie Greek was named to the All-Tournament Team, while
Julia Roth earned Tournament MVP.
How it Happened:
- The River Hawks started out slow in the game, being outscored in the first quarter 16-10.
- The Bullets jumped to a six point lead multiple times throughout the first frame, with the River Hawks fighting their way back.
- Returning for the second quarter of play, neither team found the basket through the first two minutes of play, before Gettysburg racked in two points to push their lead to eight.
- SU continued to fight back, knotting the game back up at 22 all late in the second quarter.
- SU wrapped up the half going on a 9-0 run, taking a nine point lead into the break, 31-22.
- Julia Pinckert came out of the break with the hot hand, netting two free throws for SU off an offensive rebound opportunity.
- Gettysburg stuck around as the two teams traded buckets until the SU lead dwindled to as low as three points.
- The River Hawks continued with their hot hands, out shooting the Bullets for the remainder of the quarter, taking a five point lead into the final frame of play.
- SU entered the fourth quarter and went on a huge 12-0 run, taking their biggest lead of the afternoon early in the quarter.
- Gettysburg continued to stick around, before Annie Greek started nailing three pointers.
- SU was able to push their lead to as high as 20 points very late in the game.
- The River Hawks held on to win 74-56, marking the first win over a ranked opponent since the 2021-22 season.
Inside the Box Score:
- Annie Greek set a career high in points with a game-high 19, making five 3-pointers on the afternoon. The junior shot 50% from the three point line, while adding two assists and two steals to her resume.
- Sydney Weyant, and Julia Roth continued their historic start to the season, both mustering up enough shots to reach double digits. Weyant finished the game with 17 points, four rebounds, as well as three assists.
- Two games back since injury, Roth has picked up right where she left off. Roth set her second double-double of the season in as many games, ending the day with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
- Carly George ripped down 12 rebounds to go along with two points and three assists.
- Cassie Doemling checked in late in the game, securing her first collegiate point, going 1-2 from the free throw line.
