Men Keep Up Hot Stretch Up at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – Susquehanna kept up its winning tear on Saturday, finishing off Elizabethtown 94-77 for a Landmark season sweep of the Blue Jays, improving to 11-8 overall and 8-4 in the Landmark for its sixth win in its last seven games. 

Saturday belonged to the guys in the paint as Billy Anderson and Audric Washington combined for 40 points between 24 from Anderson and 16 from Washington off the bench. Anderson led all scorers, making 9-of-16 from the floor with one 3-pointers while tallying eight assists. Washington made 7-of-8 for second on the team in scoring with four assists, while Brandon Lavitt led with nine rebounds to go with six points and four assists. These efforts landed Susquehanna a 37-28 advantage in rebounds and a staggering 54-32 advantage in points in the paint. The River Hawks made 57.8 percent of their shots (37-64), making 8-of-20 from 3-point range and 12-of-16 on free throws, compared to the Blue Jays' respective 47.5 (29-61), 10-of-31, and 9-of-14. 

The first half was tightly contested, but Susquehanna stretched its lead to nine with a buzzer-beating layup by Jackson Van Wagener. Van Wagener finished with 14 points, hitting on 5-of-9 of his shots including 3-of-4 on threes, while adding five rebounds and four assists. Michael Pirone and Cooper Haberern also contributed in double figures, scoring 15 and 12 points, respectively. Haberern, who added three 3-pointers to his season total of 55, also contributed defensively, grabbing eight rebounds and three steals. Although Elizabethtown started the second half strong to trail by just two, the River Hawks hunkered down and dropped 48 second-half points off of 19-of-29 shots made from the field. Haberern sealed the game with an off-balance three-pointer in the final two minutes, pushing Susquehanna's lead to 15 towards the victory. 

Susquehanna's incredible run in the second half of its season sees them in third place alongside Wilkes, with the River Hawks holding the edge after their 67-64 win in Wilkes-Barre on Jan. 18. Atop the league standings are first-place Drew (16-3, 12-0 Landmark) and second-place Catholic (16-3, 11-1 Landmark), with the Cardinals taking two from the River Hawks in their season series. Susquehanna's next matchup sets them on the road at Goucher on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. before prepping for a rematch with Wilkes next Saturday at 4 p.m. They are set to face Drew in their regular-season finale to determine that series.
