LATROBE, PA- Susquehanna men's lacrosse team advances to 7-1 on the season following the win in Latrobe, Pa against Saint Vincent College. The River Hawks outscored the Bearcats in the second period of the contest 5-3, propelling a commanding lead into halftime. Chris Ciccarello and Brennan Lorence continue their historic seasons and careers in the win.
Jack Gaillard started the scoring out for the River Hawks first as he netted the first goal of the game two minutes into the match up. Reese Ackerman assisted Gaillard and Brennan Lorence for the first two scores of the match up. The Bearcats did not sit quietly though, as they matched Susquehanna's two scores with two of their own. The match up remained knotted up after the first period 2-2.
The second quarter fared well for both teams as the scoring gained some traction in the match up. The Bearcats scored the first goal of the second frame, before Susquehanna went on a scoring tear, netting five straight goals. Gaillard was assisted by Giovanni Aiello to knot the game back up at three all. Brennan Lorence, Tyler Young, and Chris Ciccarello all scored unassisted goals to push the SU lead to four. Gaillard sent a perfect pass to Nick Remund to add his name to the tally of goal scorers on the afternoon. Saint Vincent scored an additional two goals late in the second frame, as the River Hawks controlled the contest 7-5 heading into the break.
Chris Ciccarello scored an unassisted goal coming out of the break, before the Bearcats would rip off a pair, cutting into the SU lead. Lorence banked in on an unassisted goal, pushing the lead back to a pair, 9-7. With less than ten seconds to go in the third frame, Johnathon Nagy scored the final goal of the period for Saint Vincent. Susquehanna held a one goal lead heading into the fourth quarter, 9-8.
Ciccarello kept his historic season going as he scored an unassisted goal early in the quarter. The Bearcats snapped back at SU scoring their own goal past Augie Granatelli. The River Hawks ripped off three straight goals to end the game 13-9. Ciccarello, Lorence, and Remund were the goal scorers for the River Hawks.
Susquehanna advances to 7-1 on the season as they look forward to conference play beginning. SU has a date scheduled with the Rangers of Drew University in their first conference game on March 22. The River Hawks enter conference play with the best record in the Landmark Conference, as the quest for the Landmark Conference Championship begins.
