Susquehanna Falls to Moravian in Weekend Road Landmark Matchup

BETHLEHEM, PA - Susquehanna women's lacrosse paid a visit Saturday to Moravian in Landmark Conference play. While the River Hawks succeeded in scoring the game's first goal courtesy of Abby Andrus from newly-crowned program assists career leader Liv Owen, the Greyhounds pounced on eight straight goals towards a decisive 14-6 victory.

Andrus had two goals on the day, while Owen finished with one goal and one assist. Their work in tandem offered SU an early 1-0 lead with 8:13 left in the first quarter. Almost immediately Moravian had an answer, tying the game just ten seconds later. This opened up a six-goal onslaught by Moravian to wrap up the first quarter ahead 6-1, followed by adding two more to start the second leading 8-1. The River Hawks tried to get a spark when Emma Kelleher offered up the first of her three goals on the day, then assisted the next goal to Andrus to cut the lead to 8-3. Kelleher would score again before the end of the half as the score read 9-4 Moravian at the break. The Greyhounds, however, enjoyed another scoring run, this time connecting for five unanswered to open up a 14-4 lead. SU got the last two scores as Kelleher again scored unassisted, followed by Owen scoring from an assist by Sophie Cole in the closing moments.

Goalie Aerin O'Brien offered up nine saves in another 60-minute display in net. Ultimately it was the work of MU's Jackie Salvatore and Alex Cherenson that proved troublesome for the River Hawks. Salvatore finished with six points on three goals and three assists, while Cherenson had a five-point day on three goals and two assists. Madi Dippel and Melissa Elefonte each added two more goals. Moravian outshot Susquehanna 39-22, including 16-15 in shots on goal, and captured 18 draw controls to Susquehanna's six. Moravian also seized on five of its seven free position chances, including a perfect 3-for-3 in the first quarter. The River Hawks were successful on 2-of-4 chances.

Susquehanna, now 1-1 in the Landmark and 4-6 overall, prepare to head down to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to take on Catholic. It's then two straight at home following that, starting with Lycoming Saturday, April 5 and Juniata Wednesday, April 9.
