Box Score HARRISBURG, PA - Susquehanna baseball traveled to 12th-ranked Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday, being shut out for the first time this season in a 16-0 defeat.
The River Hawks were unable to capitalize on an RBI situation in the top of the first, with a double play on an attempted tag on a flyout resulting in a momentum shift after the River Hawks had started strongly, and the Lions scored multiple runs in each of the first five innings to lead 11-0.
Jaden Buechler started on the mound, but was only able to make it through 1+ innings, allowing one earned run and being stuck with the loss. The River Hawks went to a bullpen game from there, using eight pitchers on the day.
Susquehanna recorded four hits on the day, including two from
CJ Orrego and knocks from
Dylan Heyduk and
Michael Gagliardi. Heyduk was not put out in the game, drawing two walks and being drilled while going 1-for-1. Gagliardi,
Owen Ayers, and
Lucas Zachesky also drew walks for the visiting River Hawks.
On the mound, the River Hawks got two scoreless innings in the game, coming from
Dominic Giglio and
Ben Gearhart.
With the defeat to a nationally-ranked side, Susquehanna drops to 12-11 on the season, and 1-1 against such opponents. They return to Landmark action on the weekend when they travel to Moravian for a three-game set, looking to improve their fortunes at the start of an eight-game road trip.
