BALTIMORE,MD - Susquehanna conquered Goucher Wednesday afternoon with a slew of goals, 17 to be exact, to keep their high-scoring streak going in a 17-8 win. The River Hawks sit with a 5-3 conference record, mathematically clinching them a Landmark Tournament spot with one game to at Elizabethtown on Saturday, April 26.
Goucher came out hot in the opening period scoring the first goal of the afternoon, but the River Hawks, unfazed, reeled off three straight. Nick Remund ripped a ball past the Goucher net minder, knotting the game up at 1-1. Chris Ciccarello continued the SU scoring, followed by Jack Gaillard being assisted by Pat McDermott. The Gophers scored the next two goals to tie up the match at three, before Ciccarello reclaimed the lead for SU. Susquehanna held a slight lead 4-3 after the first period.
Goucher scored the opening goal of the second period, followed by eight unanswered SU goals to end the first half of play. Ciccarello started the scoring run for the River Hawks, followed by Pat McDermott being assisted by Mason Miller. Matthew Faggioli added his name to the mix, when McDermott earned his second assist of the afternoon. Kieran Thomas and Chris Ciccarello notched an unassisted goal to push the SU lead to five. Jack Gaillard passed a perfect ball to Steven Musser who pushed the ball past the Gopher goalkeeper. Kieran Thomas and Brennan Lorence teamed up for the 11th goal of the afternoon for SU. Lorence added the eight goal of the period for SU, pushing the lead to 12-4 at halftime.
The River Hawks kept the scoring run going entering the second half of play when Gabe Broome assisted Pat McDermott. Ciccarello earned an assist when he pushed a ball to Kieran Thomas, who scored the 14th point for the River Hawks. Ciccarello scored an unassisted goal before the Gophers could stop the scoring run. Goucher's Tyler May scored for the Gophers to end the third period. SU led 15-5 after three frames.
Reese Ackerman and Chris Ciccarello scored the 16th and 17th goal for the River Hawks to push the lead to 12 with less than 11 minutes to play. The Gophers scored three unanswered goals to end the game 17-8.
The River Hawks hold the fifth spot in the Landmark Conference with one game remaining against Elizabethtown College. Susquehanna hopes to improve their spot in the conference, as they look forward to postseason play. The River Hawks take on the Blue Jays on April 26 in their regular season finale.
