ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - Susquehanna softball bounced back in a big way Saturday, taking a doubleheader sweep against Elizabethtown College. The victories put Susquehanna in a healthy position in the Landmark Conference standings through ten league games, needing great showings in their last six conference contests in doubleheaders against Moravian, Wilkes, and Drew.
Game 1: Susquehanna 4, Elizabethtown 1
The River Hawks and the Blue Jays were locked in a defensive battle in the first two frames of the afternoon, before Susquehanna struck with a Lexi Palumbo single to left field, propelling Alyssa Mayorca across home plate. Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning, when the Blue Jays knotted it back up at 1-1.
Susquehanna exploded in the fifth inning, pushing the lead to three. Palumbo earned two more RBI's when she doubled to left center, scoring Bri Jones and Alyssa Mayorca. SU tacked on an additional insurance run when Hannah Roland reached first base on a throwing error by the E-Town shortstop, and Palumbo came around to score from third. Susquehanna held off the Blue Jays for the remainder of the match, winning the game 4-1.
Brianna Jones earned the start for the River Hawks, pitching a complete game. The junior pitcher earned six strikeouts and allowed only one run to score off of six hits.
Game 2: Susquehanna 4, Elizabethtown 1
Susquehanna came shot out of a canon in the second matchup of the afternoon's doubleheader. The River Hawks scored three first innings runs, off the bats of Alyssa Mayorca and Savannah Patrone. Mayorca doubled to left center field, scoring the leadoff hitter Bri Jones. Savannah Patrone took her cleanup duties seriously, singling to center field, scoring Palumbo and Mayorca. The Blue Jays scored their sole run of the matchup in the bottom half of the first frame.
Both teams led defensive battles for the remainder of the afternoon, before Patrone solo homered to left field in the seventh inning. Amanda Amerman finished the bottom half of the frame for SU, winning the game 4-1.

Susquehanna returns home for a Landmark Conference doubleheader against nationally ranked #16 Moravian University on April 22. The River Hawks sit pretty in the Conference, with a 7-3 record. SU is hoping to clinch a playoff berth with six conference games remaining, as well as two non-conference games to wrap their regular season up.
