River Hawks Split with #12 Moravian, Snap Greyhounds' 17-Game Win Streak

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna University split with 12th-ranked Moravian University after an explosive second game from both teams. The River Hawks dropped the first game 5-1, but then brought the bats to carry them to a 5-4 victory in the nightcap that came down to the last at bat. With the tying run on second for Moravian with two outs in the seventh, Susquehanna pitcher Amanda Amerman got the Greyhounds batter to pop one up behind home plate, with Hannah Roland having just enough room to squeeze the final out to much euphoria. 

Game 1: Susquehanna 1, Moravian 5 

The River Hawks drop game one of their double header matchup against nationally ranked Moravian University. Susquehanna came out hot in game one scoring the opening run in the bottom half of the first inning. Hannah Roland singled to right field, scoring leadoff batter Bri Jones to take the early lead. The River Hawks fended off the Greyhounds until the third frame when the go ahead run scored, pushing the visiting team's lead to 2-1. The Greyhounds kept their foot on the gas, scoring an additional two runs in the sixth inning, scoring their final run in the seventh inning.  

Brianna Jones earned the start for SU. Jones struck out seven batters, while pitching a complete game. Jones allowed ten hits in the outing, with her season record dropping to 9-3 after the loss. 

Game 2: Susquehanna 5, Moravian 4 

The River Hawks defeat Moravian in game two to hand the Greyhounds their first conference loss of the season. Moravian previously sat with a 9-0 record in conference play. Susquehanna jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Lexi Palumbo singled up the middle, scoring the SU leadoff batter Bri Jones.  

The River Hawks fended off the Greyhounds until the fourth inning, when Susquehanna's offense exploded scoring four runs in the frame. Bri Jones tripled to center field, scoring the speedy Hailey Kaba. Alyssa Mayorca singled up the middle, pushing Jones from third to home to extend the SU lead to three. Susquehanna loaded the bases up when Hannah Roland singled through the left side. Katelyn Dugery singled down the right field line, earning two RBI's as Mayorca and Graysen Trybulski scored. Susquehanna held a 5-0 lead entering the sixth inning.  

The Greyhounds made the remainder of the afternoon interesting when they scored four runs in the top half of the sixth inning, cutting the SU lead to one. Amanda Amerman checked in to earn the save for SU. The River Hawks earned the first two out of the inning, before Moravian's Silberman singled up the middle. The go-ahead run stepped up to the plate, watching three balls go past her. Amerman tacked on two strikes to the count, before Moravian's Elmore fouled a ball behind home plate, and Hannah Roland made a spectacular catch to win the game for the River Hawks. 

Hannah Foust earned the start for SU, pitching five plus innings on her way to the win, her first of the season. The first five innings were scoreless for the SU pitcher. Amanda Amerman checked in for Foust to earn the save for Susquehanna. Amerman pitched the remainder of the afternoon, striking out one batter, while allowing only two hits and zero runs.  

Up Next For SU: 

Susquehanna advances to 12-17 on their season, while sitting at 8-4 in conference play. The River Hawks sits tied for second place in the Landmark Conference with Catholic University. The River Hawks play host to Wilkes University on April 26 in a Landmark Conference doubleheader.
