LA PLUME, PA - Susquehanna baseball were held off the scoreboard in Monday's game at No. 23 Keystone, falling 7-0 in a game where they turned four double plays.
Keystone did all their scoring in the first five innings, getting on the board with a run in the first and two in the second off first-year starting pitcher
Jaden Buechler. Buechler went 1.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, and took a loss.
Antonio Mastellone relieved Buechler, working 1.2 innings, allowing three earned, all coming in the fourth inning. One Giant crossed the plate in the fifth, on the line of right-hander
Jacob Klotz.
Alec Kulp threw the final three innings, needing to face just ten batters to record nine outs, two of which were punchouts.
The River Hawks managed just five hits in the game, leaving seven runners on base.
Tyler Hmielewski and
Owen Ayers led the way with two, while
Michael Gagliardi recorded a hit and a walk. Ayers was not put out in three trips, also being hit by a pitch.
Ayers was also involved in all four double plays from second base, while Gagliardi and
Aidan Proctor featured in three, and seniors
Christian Biuso and
Thomas Andersen teamed up with Ayers for the final one in the bottom of the eighth.
The River Hawks slipped to 14-18 after the defeat to ranked opposition for the second time this year, dropping their record to 1-2 against nationally ranked teams after an 8-4 win over Misericordia in Florida. They return home for their final home Landmark Conference matchup of the season on Wednesday, where they will square off against Juniata. Their next weekend set comes at Wilkes.
