SCRANTON, PA - Seniors
Emma Kelleher and
Liv Owen combined for five of Susquehanna's seven goals Wednesday night in Landmark Conference action at first-place Scranton. Owen also had four of the team's nine points coming off of two goals and two assists. Her first assist to
Abby Andrus in the first quarter got the River Hawks on the board and offered just a two-goal deficit after the first quarter down 3-1. The Royals, however, strung together seven goals in the second quarter and six more in the third to widen their lead towards an 18-7 victory.
Owen scored her first goal in the second quarter, while Kelleher had two of her three in the period also to account for all three of the River Hawks' goals in the frame, trailing 10-4 at the half. The two struck again with each a goal to their credit in the third, while
Allie Kutler scored the team's last goal in the fourth. Scranton had seven players with multi-goal games, led by Grace Lane with four goals along with one assist. Molly McCarren, Jillian Lopez, Grace Didominica, Eileen Hewitt, Erin Reich, and Catherine McGlynn each had two goals for Scranton.
Goalie
Aerin O'Brien had nine saves on the day in a full 60 minutes in net, while defending away four free position shots by the home team. Susquehanna scored on three of its nine free positions, carried out by two from Owen and the one other from Kelleher. Owen's career numbers climbed to 223 points on 104 goals and 119 assists, while Kelleher now has 122 points and 78 goals. Kutler now has 90 goals and 120 points. Andrus draws closer to the 100 career point milestone, now with 97. O'Brien has 384 career saves.
The River Hawks have one final test this Saturday hosting Elizabethtown to stake their claim for the Landmark Conference Tournament. Both carry 4-4 league records, good for the fifth and sixth seeds for the tournament, going into Saturday, which also serves as Susquehanna's Senior Day. The game begins at 1 p.m. from Sassafras Field.
