Rossi Records 200th Hit as Baseball Falls to York in Ninth

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna baseball completed its non-conference slate and regular season home schedule for 2025 with an 11-10 back-and-forth defeat at the hands of York-PA. Tony Rossi recorded his 200th career hit as part of a three-hit day.

The first three and a half innings flew by, with Rossi making his second career start on the mound and allowing just a solitary hit through his four innings of work.

Lucas Zachesky was the River Hawks' first hit in the bottom of the fourth, lacing a single into left field, which set the table for Rossi, who became the third player in program history to record 200 career hits when he launched a two-run home run over the wall in right center. With two outs in the fourth, Jaden Buechler grounded a base hit up the middle, and Aidan Proctor followed that with a deep drive to right center for his first career home run to give the River Hawks a 4-0 lead.

After Rossi was relieved, the Spartans carved into their deficit in the fifth with two runs, and added three more in the sixth to take the lead. However, the River Hawks would answer back with another big sixth-inning push.

Rossi started things off with a single, followed by a Michael Gagliardi walk. CJ Orrego was drilled to load the bases, and Buechler blasted a two-run double to center to score Rossi and Gagliardi walked. Noah Confer walked to load the bases for Christian Biuso, who ripped a single down the right field line to score two more. Michael Girardi and Zachesky both recorded RBI singles as the River Hawks batted around, putting up a six spot in the bottom of the sixth.

Max Lipton did not allow a hit in 1.2 innings of work for Susquehanna, but left the game with the score at 10-5 with two runners on base in the eighth. The River Hawks' advantage was shortened after a pinch-hit three-run home run, but Robert Kramer navigated the situation to keep the game close.

York put up three more in the ninth, as a triple tied the game at 10 when Austin Wenger nearly made what would have been likely a game-saving catch in center field. The next batter singled to give the visiting Spartans the lead.

Susquehanna started strong in the ninth, with a Rossi single, but Gagliardi's single hit Rossi on an attempted hit-and-run, and that proved to be a rally killer as the River Hawks were unable to bring home the tying run.

The River Hawks have just three regular-season games to go, coming on the weekend when they travel to Moravian, playing for a postseason spot in a three-game set.
