HUNTINGDON, PA - The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team took a big victory at Juniata on Wednesday by a 22-8 score, tacking on another Landmark win to even their record to 3-3 in league play with three games to go. Sophomore
Pat McDermott had a day with a career-high five goals, along with multi-goal games from
Brennan Lorence with three and two apiece from
Chris Ciccarello and
Reese Ackerman.
Things started interestingly enough with Juniata taking the opening faceoff and scoring just 13 seconds into the contest, setting off a first quarter that saw ten goals total. Suqsuehanna, however, was responsible for eight of them, including Lorence scoring all three of his goals in the frame, to take a commanding 8-2 lead after one. The River Hawks proceeded to score the first give goals of the second quarter, split between Ackerman, McDermott,
Jack Gaillard, Ciccarello, and
Kieran Thomas for a 13-3 advantage at the half. McDermott lit it up instantly in the second half, netting three goals within the opening three-and-a-half minutes of the third to bring his single-game total to five goals and a 16-3 lead for SU with just 11:49 left in the third. Faceoff man
Brandon Cash won the ensuing faceoff and raced downfield to tack on a goal of his own for a two-touchdown lead at 17-3. Though the Eagles looked to bounce back with five second-half goals, Susquehanna proceeded to score five more from the sticks of
Kieran Koenke,
Ben Polich,
Wallace Pickard IV,Â
Lucas Biddiscombe, and
Owen Teaney.Â
Susquehanna's depth at the goalie position was on full display as they showcased a new cage keeper for each quarter.
TJ Lynch started and got the win, while
Will Harcourt played the second quarter, Jack Storpian the third, and
Ian Murphy the fourth. All four combined for nine saves, with Murphy leading the way with four. The River Hawks nearly doubled the Eagles' shots total with a 71-36 lead, including 42-17 in shots on goal. SU prevailed on one of its four extra-man opportunities to JC's 2-of-9. Susquehanna won 16 of the game's 34 faceoffs, led by
Sergio Cohen-Chirinos taking 7-of-9 midfield battles. The River Hawks defense caused 17 of Juniata's 28 turnovers as
Aidan Kennedy led with three caused turnovers.
The River Hawks, now 3-3 in the Landmark and 10-4 overall, have three more games to go to stake a claim for the Landmark Conference Tournament, starting with Wilkes in their regular season home finale and Senior Day Saturday. The game is slated for a noon start, with the Senior Day festivities slated for 11:25 a.m. After that it's two straight on the road beginning at Goucher Wednesday, April 16, followed by Elizabethtown Saturday, April 23.Â
