SUFH Unable to Keep Up with Franklin & Marshall in High-Scoring Opener

LANCASTER, PA - In a high-scoring season-opening contest, Susquehanna University Field Hockey tried its best to keep up at Franklin & Marshall Friday night. While they managed to tie the game and bring it to within one, the Diplomats seemed to quickly find scoring opportunities to keep their grip on the game in a 5-3 decision.

How It Happened

  • The Diplomats jumped out to an early lead in the first period of play, with five minutes remaining in the quarter.

  • Susquehanna scored the equalizer less than two minutes into the second frame, off a shot by Mady Quigley. Quigley earned the goal for SU, while Emma Campitelli earned the first assist of the young season.

  • The Diplomats scored two additional goals in the second frame, before Susquehanna was able to net one more just before halftime.

  • Hannah Garlin scored at the 27:18 mark of the first half during a penalty corner chance, cutting the F & M lead to one at halftime.

  • The Diplomats pushed the lead back to two entering the third frame.

  • Susquehanna's Mady Quigley once again earned the goal for the River Hawks, cutting the lead to one.

  • The Diplomats sealed the game with the final goal of the afternoon at the 41:13 mark of the match up.

Inside the Numbers

  • The River Hawks earned nine shots on the afternoon, with six being on goal.

  • SU tallied five penalty corners on the afternoon, converting two into goals.

  • Taytum Lombardi earned the start for the orange and maroon, saving four balls during her season opening appearance.

  • Kiara Koeller put her name on notice, taking three shots during the game, with one shot landing on goal.

  • Mady Quigley tacked on two shots, both on goal, with both shots finding the back of the cage. The 2024 Landmark Rookie of the Year and Tournament MVP now has ten career goals with 25 points. Just this week she was tabbed to the NFHCA Division III Watchlist.

  • Hannah Garlin, took one shot on goal, converting the second River Hawks goal of the year. It marked just the third career goal for the junior for the defender/midfielder after scoring one goal apiece her rookie season and last year.

Up Next for the River Hawks
