SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's soccer returned home from a three-game road trip Saturday, but fell 1-0 at the hands of Haverford College. Goalie
Finn Kramer made 11 saves, but the Fords' lone goal in the second half turned out to be the difference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Fords had the early edge, but had nothing to show for it following five Kramer saves in the first 20 minutes.
- The River Hawks grew into the game as it progressed, but had no shots to show for it at the interval.
- Kramer made two more important saves to begin the second half, including an impressive dive to his left where he tipped away a shot from Thomas Vanni that seemed destined for the top-right corner of the net.
- It was in the 74th minute that Haverford found the net, on the second phase of a long throw from Carter Kroenke, who returned the ball to the penalty area for it to be headed in by Josh Brown.
- The Fords did not take another shot after scoring, but held off the River Hawks' attempts to equalize.
- Jack McCarthy nearly fired in on the volley in the 82nd minute, but missed narrowly wide to the right.
- Javier Diaz had an attempt moments later, as he crashed into the penalty area but couldn't direct his effort on target through a crowd of defenders.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The final shot count read 24-5 in favor of Haverford, who had 12 on target to the River Hawks' one, which came through Alex Clark.
- Kramer's 11 stops represented a career-high, while it also represented the first time a Susquehanna goalkeeper made 11 saves in a game since Matt Ellingworth did so in 2019.
- Susquehanna committed eight fouls compared to five by Haverford, while winning two corners to the Fords' six.
- The River Hawks made a pair of changes to the starting eleven, as Hayden Swinehart and Aidan Diglio returned to the fold after missing early-season time through injury.
UP NEXT FOR SU
- The River Hawks continue at home on Tuesday, September 16th, as they take on Penn State-Harrisburg. They'll travel to Immaculata in seven days, before hosting King's-PA and opening Landmark play at home against Scranton on September 27th.
