River Hawks Take Manhattan at NYU Tournament

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Susquehanna University women's volleyball team faced another tough challenge this weekend at the New York University (NYU) Tournament. They began their stay in the Big Apple Friday evening against Stevens Institute, followed by a Saturday morning matchup with Gallaudet and then the host and 23rd-ranked NYU. All resulted in 3-0 defeats for the River Hawks. 

STEVENS 3, SUSQUEHANNA 0
  • The Stevens Duck wasted no time earning the first set with a 25-10 win. The River Hawks responded mightily in set two with its best attack percentage of the match at .147 on ten kills, though the frame still belonged to Stevens by a 25-21 score. The Ducks used a match-high 15 kills in set three towards a 25-15 game-clinching win. The Ducks charted 14 kills in each of the first two sets.
  • Kyndall Mason and Sami Kline led the team with five kills apiece. Emma Willow had four kills, while Addison Dodge had the remaining three.
  • Elliott Schleicher setted 11 assists and a team-high three service aces with four digs. Jessica Sack led with 19 digs.
  • The River Hawks had 17 kills for the contest and an even .000 attack percentage. The Ducks mounted 43 kills and a .320 attack percentage. 
GALLAUDET 3, SUSQUEHANNA 0
  • The Bison charged to swift victories in the first two sets, winning 25-10 and 25-4, respectively. With Susquehanna trailing 19-9 in set three, the River Hawks rallied with seven straight points to get back in the game. Both sides would exchange points before Gallaudet parlayed a slim 22-21 lead by taking three of the last four points in a 25-22 game-clinching set.
  • Susquehanna posted 15 kills on a -.014 attack percentage, whereas Gallaudet had 42 kills for a .381 attack percentage, including a match-high 15 kills in the third game.
  • Addison Dodge led the River Hawks with four kills, along with three each from Mya Durham and Sami Kline
  • Mackenzie Cober led the team with three service aces, with Valerie Stoltz leading with five digs and Elliott Schleicher eight assists. 
NYU 3, SUSQUEHANNA 0
  • The host Violets served as Susquehanna's final opponent for the weekend, with the hosts serving up 25-13, 25-8, and 25-9 victories.
  • The River Hawks managed ten kills for the matchup and a -.032 attack percentage, while NYU had 40 kills towards a .321 attack percentage, including a game-high of 16 in the second set.
  • Stella Robinson and Addison Dodge each had three kills to lead Susquehanna. 
  • Lauren Halsey and Elliott Schleicher both led with four assists. 
  • Jessica Sack added seven more digs to her career numbers and lead SU for the matchup. Halsey added five digs of her own. 
  • Emma Willow provided the River Hawks' only service ace for the contest.
Up Next for the River Hawks
  • Susquehanna heads down next weekend to SWAT for the Swarthmore Tournament, running Friday, Sept. 12 to Saturday, Sept. 13.
  • They begin with Wesleyan Friday at 2 p.m., then on Saturday opening with Misericordia at 10 a.m. and host Swarthmore at 5:30 p.m.
