SWARTHMORE, PA - Susquehanna University women's volleyball completed their third and final weekend tournament road trip to start the season at the Swarthmore College Tournament Friday and Saturday. They began the fray on Friday against Wesleyan, then a doubleheader Saturday with a morning matchup against Misericordia and an evening affair against host SWAT. All resulted in 3-0 defeats for the River Hawks. Susquehanna hopes settling into its home nest will serve them well their next two dates as they open their home season against Dickinson Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m., then the annual River Hawk Classic Saturday, Sept. 20 against York College of Pa. and Penn State Altoona.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Susquehanna avenged a 25-11 first-set defeat to Wesleyan with close sets in two and three, which the Cardinals won by respective 25-17 and 25-21 scores.
- The Saturday morning matchup against local friend Misericordia saw a close first set, which the Cougars won by a 25-22 score. They went on to win the latter two by wider margins, 25-15 and 25-21.
- The evening matchup between Susquehanna and Swarthmore saw host Garnet win 25-12 in game one. The second set was more challenging as SWAT won by just 25-21 before winning set three 25-19.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The River Hawks improved in the kills percentage category for each match since last weekend's NYU Tournament, finishing in the plus column in each match. They posted 24 kills against 16 errors against Wesleyan for a .065 percentage. With Misericordia they charted 23 kills against 17 errors for a .062 attack percentage, then against Swarthmore a weekend-best 27 kills against 16 errors for a .097 percentage.
- Jessica Sack totaled 53 digs in the three-match stay, including 24 against Wesleyan. She also logged three service aces against Misericordia. Her career dig total amounts to 1,683.
- First-year setter Elliott Schleicher had 36 assists on the weekend to lead the team in each match, including a high of 14 against SWAT.
- Kyndall Mason found herself high up the kills sheet for Susquehanna in each match, finishing second on the team against Wesleyan with five kills behind Katelyn Dugery's six, then led the team in the latter matches with eight and seven kills, respectively.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- The River Hawks begin their home season this week, beginning with an evening matchup against Dickinson Wednesday at 7 p.m.
- The annual River Hawk Classic takes place this Saturday. Susquehanna opens things up hosting York College of Pa. at 12 p.m. York then takes on Penn State Altoona at 2 p.m. before the River Hawks retake the court at 4 p.m. against Altoona.
