Pinckert, Roth, Maffei Connect for 44 Points at The Palestra vs. Scranton

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball headed down to Philadelphia to take on nationally-ranked University of Scranton at The Palestra, with Scranton pulling away late in a close battle to defeat the River Hawks, 79-57. Susquehanna's seven-game win streak comes to a close with the team looking ahead to take on Catholic in a long-awaited return to their home court this Wednesday. 

How it Happened:
  • Julia Pinckert was the first to strike, opening the contest with a three pointer, with Julia Roth earning her first points of the contest following.
  • The River Hawks kept it close throughout the majority of the first quarter, with the Royals pulling ahead late in the frame, taking a 25-13 lead into the first break.
  • Susquehanna came into the second quarter cutting into the Scranton lead, with Pinckert nailing yet another three pointer.
  • Delany Chilcote sent up a deep three pointer, being fouled during the shot. Chilcote knocked down all three free throws, cutting the Scranton lead to five.
  • Scranton ended the half with a layup, taking a 41-34 lead into halftime.
  • The Royals pulled away once more in the third quarter, but SU would not go quietly, cutting the lead once more to five points multiple times throughout the frame.
  • Scranton held a 57-47 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
  • Julia Pinckert once more started the scoring for the River Hawks, cutting into the Scranton lead.
  • The River Hawks continued to fight, cutting the lead to as little as five points, but the offensive prowess of Scranton was to much to overcome.
  • The Royals held on to defeat the River Hawks, 79-57.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Julia Roth and Zoie Maffei led all River Hawks scorers during the contest, with both netting 15 points, while Roth pulled down four rebounds. Maffei grabbed two rebounds for the River Hawks.
  • Julia Pinckert broke into double digit points, ending the contest with 14. Pinckert shot an outstanding 4-5 from beyond the three point line.
  • Susquehanna finished the contest shooting 41.7% from the field (20-of-48), while shooting 36.8% from beyond the arc. They also made 10-of-13 free throws, one less than Scranton's 11-of-14 from the charity stripe. 
  • The River Hawks' bench did produce 24 points to the Royals' bench's 21. Maffei's 15 points led the bench as she made 6-of-9 from the field. First years Delaney Chilcote and Renee Wells had the nine remaining bench points, six from Chilcote and three from Wells. Each made one 3-pointer to aid in SU's 7-of-19 afternoon shooting threes. 
Up Next for the River Hawks:
  • Susquehanna returns to Selinsgrove to take on Catholic University on January 14 at 5:00 PM. It will mark the team's first game back in Houts Gymnasium since Dec. 6 against Moravian. 
  • Following SU's match up against Catholic, the River Hawks head out to the Garden State to take on Drew University on January 17.
