SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Susquehanna University linebacker
Vin Raniero has been named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in the River Hawks' 45-21 victory over Catholic University on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Raniero anchored a Susquehanna defense that helped the No. 22/24 River Hawks open Landmark Conference play with a decisive road victory in Washington, D.C. The linebacker finished with a team-high nine total tackles, including seven solo stops, while making a key impact early in the contest.
Raniero helped set the tone on Catholic's opening possession, recovering a fumble forced by teammate
Jaden Hines to give Susquehanna possession at the Cardinals' seven-yard line. The turnover set up the River Hawks' opening touchdown and helped spark a dominant first quarter in which Susquehanna built a 21-0 lead.
The River Hawks continued to control the game, taking a 35-7 advantage into halftime before securing the 45-21 victory. Susquehanna's defense contributed to the team's strong start by creating turnovers and limiting Catholic's opportunities to build momentum.
With nine tackles and a pivotal fumble recovery, Raniero played a key role in the River Hawks' defensive effort as the team improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Landmark Conference play. The victory also extended Susquehanna's Landmark Conference winning streak to 19 consecutive games dating back to 2023.
Susquehanna returns home Saturday, Oct. 17, to host Moravian University at noon at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field at Doug Arthur Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 noon.
