ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Susquehanna University field hockey erased a pair of deficits Saturday afternoon, rallying from a 3-2 hole to defeat Elizabethtown College, 4-3, in overtime at Wolf Field. The River Hawks improved to 3-9 overall and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play with the thrilling victory.
How It Went Down
- The River Hawks and Blue Jays played to a scoreless opening period before Elizabethtown's Hannah Long struck first for the first of her three goals on the day at the 19:17 mark to lead 1-0.
- Susquehanna answered just over five minutes later when Sydney Jordan found the back of the cage at 24:32, tying the game at 1-1. It would be short lived as Long responded less than one minute later to put E-Town back up at the 25:18 mark.
- Jada Thompson then opened the third quarter with a goal at 35:11 to even the contest at 2-2.
- Elizabethtown responded just over a minute later, reclaiming a 3-2 advantage. The River Hawks continued to apply pressure, eventually finding the equalizer late in regulation. Isabel Goncalves converted a feed from Haley Dreisbach at 54:58 to make it a 3-3 game.
- Neither team could break the deadlock during the remainder of regulation or the first overtime period, sending the game into a second overtime.
- That's when Kiara Koeller delivered, scoring at the 74:15 mark off a penalty corner to give Susquehanna the 4-3 victory and complete the River Hawks' comeback.
