SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to Wilkes University Tuesday evening in Landmark Conference action at Sassafras Multipurpose Field.
How It Went Down
- Wilkes opened the scoring late in the first quarter, as Sage Morgan found the back of the cage at the 11:39 mark to give the Colonels a 1-0 advantage.
- Susquehanna continued to pressure the Wilkes defense throughout the contest, earning seven penalty corners, including six in the second half. The River Hawks generated three shots in the third quarter and three more in the fourth, but Wilkes goalkeeper Chloe Gilroy turned aside both shots that reached the cage.
- River Hawks goalie Taytum Lombardi was also just as dynamic, making several key saves to keep it a one-goal game, including a fourth-quarter penalty stroke save.
- The Colonels added an insurance goal with just under three minutes remaining in regulation when Taylor Bower scored off an assist from Maddie Karp, pushing the Wilkes lead to 2-0.
