Susquehanna Women's Soccer Season Ends at Scranton in Landmark Semifinals

SCRANTON, PA - Susquehanna women's soccer saw its season come to a close Wednesday evening, falling 2-0 to top-seeded Scranton in the Landmark Conference Semifinals at Weiss Field. Despite a valiant performance by the defense that countered a hungry Royals' team all night, Scranton pulled through with goals split between each half.

How It Went Down
  • The River Hawks faced an early challenge against the Royals, who applied pressure throughout the opening half. Goalkeeper Katie Henchy kept Susquehanna within striking distance, making several important stops, including a big save at the 39:03 mark to deny a Scranton scoring opportunity.
  • Scranton broke through in the 31st minute when Elise Nicholas found the back of the net off an assist from Faith Schechter, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
  • Susquehanna continued to battle in the second half, looking to find an equalizer while trying to contain Scranton's attacking pressure. Henchy remained busy between the posts, recording additional saves at 56:58 and 60:27 to keep the deficit at one.
  • The River Hawks created opportunities of their own, with Amelia Kopp putting a shot on target in the 70th minute and Liv Baczor testing the Scranton goalkeeper in the 81st minute. However, Scranton added an insurance goal in the 80th minute as Peyton DiLello scored to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • Despite a strong effort from Henchy and the Susquehanna defense, the River Hawks were unable to mount a comeback as Scranton secured its place in the Landmark Conference Championship game.
