DALLAS, PA - The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the young 2026 season Wednesday, pulling out a 10-6 win at Misericordia. The River Hawks pulled out in front early with five straight goals fro a 5-1 second-quarter lead, then sustained that through the rest of the contest to hold on to the comfortable win.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Misericordia's Jack Simone opened the scoring halfway through the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead.Â
- Susquehanna took control of the game thanks to five consecutive scores over the first and second quarters. Owen Teaney and Matt Chubenko offered up SU's first two goals of the day to end the first quarter up 2-1. This was followed by the senior Nick Remund scoring the first goal of the second quarter, then he and Gabe Broome each scoring the next two on man-up opportunities for a 5-1 lead with 4:36 left in the second.Â
- The Cougars' lone retort in this stretch came from Ty Murawski's goal with under a minute left in the first half to make it a 5-2 game. But before the Cougars could have the last word, Pat McDermott made sure of SU remaining in control of the game, scoring with two seconds left on the clock off a Remund assist for a 6-2 halftime lead.
- The River Hawks kept their momentum going to open the second half with two quick goals to open the third, coming fronm Tyler Young and McDermott to lead 8-2.Â
- Misericordia matched this with a pair of goals of its own from Murawski and Lincoln Brayford to cut the deficit to 8-4, only for the River Hawks to get two more from Teaney and Young goals for a 10-4 lead after three quarters.Â
- The Cougars tried once more to rally with a pair of goals less than one minute apart to make it 10-6 with eight minutes remaining. The defense, however, stood tall as they shut the door on any more scoring opportunities to hold down the win.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Remund and McDermott led with four points, each with two goals and two assists.Â
- They were joined in the two-goal category by Young and Teaney, while Chubenko had two points on one goal and one assists and Quin Michaels contributing two assists.Â
- Susquehanna led 25-22 in shots and 15-9 in shots on goal. The River Hawks took advantage of two of their seven extra-man opportunities, while the Cougars were shut out on all four of their chances.Â
- Faceoff man Brandon Cash finished 10-of-16 on in the circle, while Michaels won his only faceoff for a team total of 11-of-17. This led to Cash scooping up six ground balls.Â
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- Wednesday marked the first of a four-game road trip for the River Hawks as they embark for three more road games over the next two weeks.Â
- It begins this Saturday as they travel to King's College of Pa. for a 12 noon matchup. This is followed by a Tuesday visit to Washington College of Md. for a 4 p.m. game, then finally at Haverford Saturday, Mar. 7 at 3 p.m.
- Susquehanna returns home on Wednesday, Mar. 11 against Lebanon Valley.Â
