SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna University women's basketball team made it six wins in a row Wednesday night with a handy 66-51 Landmark victory over Wilkes. While the triumph keeps the River Hawks at a healthy pace near the top of the Landmark standings with a 10-3 overall record and 17-3 overall, the team had more reason to celebrate as head coach
Gabby Holko reached her 100th career win as a head coach.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Susquehanna scored early and often towards a 12-2 opening run to start the game, with Julia Pinckert scoring seven of the team's first nine points. She contributed a three during this run, while Annie Greek popped a three to make it 12-2 before Wilkes called its first timeout.
- The scoring, as well as the threes, continued to fall through the rest of the first quarter as the River Hawks posted five 3-pointers in the first frame to hold a 27-7 lead after the first quarter.
- The River Hawks kept up the blistering pace in the second quarter, adding three more triples before the half ended to lead 42-18 at the break.
- While the Colonels played a tight third quarter to cut into Susquehanna's lead at 51-34 entering the fourth, the River Hawks kept up their great work with the basketball to put the finishing touches on the win.
- After making just three field goals in the third quarter, Susquehanna improved in the fourth with seven field goals and one final 3-pointer, courtesy of Greek, her fourth on the night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Julia Pinckert's hot start resulted in her posting 13 points with seven assists. She connected on 3-of-6 threes and 5-of-8 from the floor, while dishing out seven assists. For her career she now has 379 total assists and 791 points. Her five rebounds now give her 529 lifetime, while adding her career 3-point totals to 104.
- Annie Greek led all scorers with 18 points, making 4-of-8 triples on the night and 7-of-14 on field goals.
- Roth continued to flex her pull-down game with ten rebounds, bringing her career totals to 591 through just three competitive seasons. She added six points, giving her 865 points for her career.
- Carly George, another 600 career-rebound chaser, was second on the team with eight rebounds, giving her 589 lifetime. She also gathered eight points, all from the floor on a 4-of-8 night shooting.
- Susquehanna posted a 36.2 percent night in field goals, making 25-of-69, while Wilkes charted 29.6 percent on 16-of-54 shooting. The River Hawks' precision 3-point shooting put them over the Colonels, making 9-of-22 from long range to their guests' 6-of- 21.
- The River Hawks led 51-36 in rebounds, including 17-7 in offensive boards that saw Susquehanna get 14 second-chance points. Roth's rebounds were evenly split between five offensive boards and five defensive.
- Weyant finished with seven points, while first-years Renee Wells and Delaney Chilcote eached delivered five points. Weyant and Chilcote each had one three on the night.
- In seven seasons as a head coach, Gabby Holko reached 100 career wins between her 87 wins over six years in charge of Susquehanna and 13 during her one year at Marywood.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- Susquehanna stays home this weekend as the River Hawks play host to Lycoming this Saturday at 4 p.m. in hopes of a season sweep of the Warriors. SU defeated Lyco at their place in early January, 90-40.
- Saturday's game is part of Susquehanna University's Hall of Fame Weekend, where the newest induction class will be ushered in at halftime of the women's game, which begins at 4 p.m.
