SELINSGROVE, PA - The Landmark Conference men's lacrosse season began for all ten teams Saturday as last year's conference semifinalists Susquehanna and Elizabethtown squared off for the first time since their postseason encounter last April. Both sides kept the shots coming and great defense from both sides stood their ground. The Blue Jays landed 11 of their 27 shots on goal to take an 11-4 win.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Elizabethtown appeared to be in position to pull away after scoring the first quarter's only three goals to lead 3-0 after one.
- Susquehanna put a hold on that to start the second quarter as Nick Remund got the team's first score on a Pat McDermott assist.
- The Blue Jays went on another three-goal spree within a four-minute span to lead 6-1 midway through the quarter.
- The River Hawks had one more response before the first half ended as Matt Chubenko got the team's second score of the day unassisted. E-Town snuck one in with just over a minute remaining in the half courtesy of Reese Levinson to lead 7-2 at halftime.
- Drew Filipovitz scored the first goal of the second half for Susquehanna on steal and score fashion. As Elizabethtown looked to move the ball upfield, a pass back to Blue Jays goalie Ben Zaitz was intercepted by Filipovitz, who flung it to the open net.
- After another Levinson goal for E-Town, Jimmy Maro scored what would be the last goal of the day for Susquehanna to make it 8-4 after three.
- The Blue Jays went on to score three more goals in the fourth quarter to close out the day.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Elizabethtown's Tristan Coleman had six points on the day with three goals and three assists.
