BETHLEHEM, PA - Susquehanna and Moravian waged an impressive battle Friday in a Landmark Conference men's lacrosse battle. The River Hawks opened with a 3-0 lead and held a 5-3 advantage to start the third quarter. The Greyhounds then tilted the game in their favor with five goals to close out the third quarter, eventually holding on for a 10-8 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Of Susquehanna's eight goals on the day, first-year Matt Chubenko was the only one with a multi-goal game, scoring two. Gabe Broome and Quin Michaels led off with the game's first two scores, then Chubenko notched his first of the day as SU led 3-0 less than five minutes into the game.
- The first quarter then got quiet and nearly stayed that way until Moravian scored when Nick Coffaro's goal with just over two minutes left made the score 3-1 after one.
- The Greyhounds tied it up to open the second quarter when Ryan Kokoszka and Hunter Klapmuts each had goals to knot it up at 3-3.
- Chubenko gave Susquehanna a lift by closing out the first-half scoring with his second goal of the day for a 4-3 lead at halftime.
- Nick Remund added to the River Hawks' lead to start the third as Pat McDermott set him up with a man-up scoring play to lead 5-3.
- Moravian caught fire as they answere with five unanswered goals to end the third period. Coffaro scored three goals in this stretch in a productive afternoon, while assisting a goal to Ryan Kokoszka. Christian Hantson added the last goal in this stretch during a man-up opportunity.
- The River Hawks tried to rally in the fourth quarter with goals from Jimmy Maro and Drew Filipovits. Each time, however, it was countered by a Moravian goal from Tyler Bowden and Ryan Kokoszka as MU maintained a three-goal lead.
- Owen Teaney scored the game's final goal for the River Hawks, assisted by McDermott, with the latter having three assists on the day.
- Moravian's Coffaro finished with an eight-point day, split evenly between four goals and four assists.
- Will Harcourt got the start in goal, finishing with eight saves over the first three quarters. Jack Storipan took over in goal during the fourth quarter, administering one save.
- Susquehanna led 44-40 in shots, though both sides finished tied 19-19 in shots on goal. Greyhounds goalie Liam Kelly had 11 saves in a full 60 minutes in net.
- Each side was also tied at 1-of-6 on man-up opportunities.
- The River Hawks won 15-of-20 faceoffs, led by Brandon Cash's 15-of-18 day in the draw circle.
