SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's lacrosse had a productive afternoon against Juniata for their fourth win in their last six games with a 19-7 decision against the Eagles. Eleven River Hawks netted goals on the day, led by four from
Matt Chubenko and three from
Reese Ackerman.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Chubenko started the scoring with an unassisted goal early in the first quarter. He scored two in the first quarter to bookend the team's scoring output in the period, accompanied by scores from Jimmy Maro, Drew Filipovits, and Owen Teaney.
- While Susquehanna led just 5-2 after one, it was all orange and maroon in the second quarter with four unanswered goals. Two of these came from Garrett Howell and one each from Teaney and Ackerman.
- Chubenko added his final two goals of the day in the third quarter as Susquehanna poured on six more in the frame, though Juniata answered with four as the score read 15-6 Susquehanna through three. Filipovits and Kieran Koenke also scored in the third, as did Nick Remund and Christian Fokas.
- Ackerman began the fourth with a pair of goals to open the fourth quarter to give Susquehanna its largest lead up to that point at 17-6.
- Gabe Broome scored a shorthanded goal, while Ridge Gerken scored his first career goal near the end of the contest. Juniata got one back late in the contest for the final point of the day.
- Greyson Stewart started in goal for the River Hawks, getting two saves before Matt Connor took over for the next two quarters, also registering a pair of saves. Jack Storipan finished out the last 24-plus minutes in goal, finishing with four saves.
- Susquehanna led 52-36 in shots and 33-15 in shots on goal.
- Juniata won 18-12 in faceoffs, with SU's Brandon Cash winning eight and Brendan Gleason four.
- The River Hawks were called for three penalties, though the defense stepped up to keep Juniata from scoring each time. This was evident when Broome scored on a shorthanded goal.
