BETHLEHEM, PA - The Susquehanna University softball team held a pair of leads in Friday's elimination game against Drew during the Landmark Conference Tournament at Moravian University. The River Hawks led early 2-0 and 3-2 in the sixth, but the Rangers rallied to tie things up in the bottom of the sixth and walked it off in the seventh for a 4-3 victory.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Maddy Devine got things started in a big way in the first inning with a two-RBI triple that was sent to right center field, giving Susquehanna all the momentum after a huge highlight play early in the game.
- Drew answered back with a run in the bottom half of the frame to get on the board, as Izzy Wiemer's sacrifice cut the lead to 2-1 in favor of the River Hawks after one inning.
- Wiemer answered the call again for the Rangers her next time up in the third, tying the game on an RBI single at two runs apiece.
- The score would remain tied for the next two innings until starting pitcher Amanda Amerman gave the River Hawks the lead with an RBI double to center field to make the score 3-2.
- The Rangers responded however in the top of the sixth with a RBI single to tie the game heading into the final inning.
- Susquehanna had two runners on in the seventh with two outs, but were stymied as Drew held firm to force the inning's final out.
- Second base player Brianna Jones was called on to pitch to get Susquehanna three outs in the bottom of the seventh. She got her first batter to ground out, though walked the next in Sloan Walmsley. That set the stage for Haley Meierhofer to drive a double to left field, scoring Walmsley from first to advance Drew in the tournament.
