SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna's field hockey team began the 2026 season Tuesday with a key non-conference matchup against Franklin & Marshall on their home Sassafras Field. The Diplomats scored twice in the opening period and led the way in shots as the visitors claimed a 4-0 win.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- The first goal of the season came from F&M's Caitlin Hoover on an assist from Maya Rorick halfway through the first.
- Rorick returned to the score sheet with a goal of her own near the end of the first as the visitors led 2-0 through one.
- Hoover notched her second goal of the year almost five minutes into the second quarter to lead 3-0 at halftime, assisted by Caroline Roschen.
- The River Hawks buckled down and kept the Diplomats scoreless through the remainder of the second and throughout the third.
- Susquehanna goalie Kylie Schmidt started and played the first three periods, earning five saves before Taytum Lombardi took over in the fourth, encountering four saves.
- F&M added one more goal in the fourth, with Hoover making it a hat trick on an assist from Sarah Weitzman
- The Diplomats outhot Susquehanna 22-1 and 13-1 in shots on goal, while having 15 penalty corners to the River Hawks' lone chance.

- Susquehanna continues the early part of its season this weekend, traveling to McDaniel on Friday and then back home against Alvernia Saturday.
