Field Hockey Falls on Late Goal to Washington (Md.)

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Susquehanna University field hockey team battled Washington College in a tightly contested defensive matchup Saturday afternoon, but the River Hawks fell to the Shorewomen, 1-0, at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.

Neither team found the back of the cage through the first three quarters, with Susquehanna creating several scoring opportunities while the River Hawks' defense kept Washington College off the scoreboard. The Shorewomen finally broke through with just over two minutes remaining, as Reece Forrey scored at 57:54 off an assist from Tyler Rice to give Washington College the lead.

Susquehanna continued to push for the equalizer in the final minutes, but Washington College goalkeeper Charlotte Schurman made two fourth-quarter saves to preserve the shutout.

HOW IT WENT DOWN
  • Susquehanna controlled much of the early offensive action, outshooting Washington College 7-3 through the first half and earning two penalty corners.
  • The River Hawks continued to pressure the Shorewomen in the third quarter, earning two more penalty corners while holding Washington College to just two shots.
  • Washington College broke the scoreless deadlock with 2:06 remaining in regulation when Forrey scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Rice.
  • Susquehanna earned three penalty corners in the fourth quarter and put four shots toward the cage, but Schurman turned aside both shots on goal to secure the victory.
