SCRANTON, Pa. — The Susquehanna University men's soccer team opened Landmark Conference play Saturday afternoon, falling 4-1 to the University of Scranton at Weiss Field.
The River Hawks battled throughout the contest, with
Aidan Diglio scoring in the 87th minute to get Susquehanna on the board. Scranton, however, built a four-goal advantage before the River Hawks' late tally to secure the conference victory.
How It Went Down
- Scranton wasted little time finding the scoreboard, scoring twice during the opening six minutes of play. Matt Capretto opened the scoring at the 1:43 mark before Luke Roberto doubled the Royals' advantage just 4:29 later.
- The River Hawks entered halftime trailing 2-0 despite a strong defensive effort from goalkeeper Finn Kramer, who made two saves during the opening 45 minutes.
- Scranton added to its lead early in the second half when James Mayo found the back of the net in the 59th minute, putting the Royals ahead 3-0.
- The Royals added another goal in the 76th minute, with Cooper Seele scoring off an assist from Ethan Beach to make it 4-0.
- Susquehanna continued to battle until the final whistle and broke through in the 87th minute. Alex Clark set up Diglio, who scored his second goal of the season to put the River Hawks on the board.
Inside the Box Score
- Scranton finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots and put eight attempts on frame compared to one for Susquehanna. The Royals also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
- Diglio led the River Hawks with two shots, including Susquehanna's lone shot on goal and the team's only goal. Jack McCarthy, Parks Ordiway and Luke Edwin each added one shot.
- Kramer played 75:59 in goal and made four saves. Ryan Becker played the opening 14:01.
- Clark recorded the assist on Diglio's goal, while the River Hawks committed 10 fouls compared to 12 for Scranton.

- Susquehanna will look to bounce back from its Landmark Conference opener when it returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 30 with a non-conference date at King's College of Pa. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
