Volleyball Battles Back to Force Fifth Set, Fall Twice on Saturday

WESTMINSTER, MD - The Susquehanna University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at McDaniel College, falling 3-1 to the host Green Terror before battling back from a 2-0 deficit against Rutgers-Newark to force a fifth set in a 3-2 setback.

HOW IT WENT DOWN
  • Susquehanna opened the day against McDaniel, dropping the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-20.
  • The River Hawks answered in the third set, posting a 25-18 victory behind 13 kills and five total blocks to extend the match.
  • McDaniel closed out the match in the fourth set, 25-23, despite Susquehanna holding a 13-8 edge in kills in the frame.
  • Stella Robinson led the River Hawks with 11 kills, while Camille Ince added eight and Natalia Baca contributed seven.
  • Lauren Halsey finished with 23 assists, while Abby Madigan anchored the defense with 15 digs.
  • In the afternoon match against Rutgers-Newark, the Scarlet Raiders took the first two sets, 25-20 and 29-27.
  • Susquehanna responded with back-to-back wins, taking the third set 25-20 before dominating the fourth set, 25-16, to force a deciding fifth set.
  • The River Hawks held their own in the fifth, but Rutgers-Newark edged Susquehanna 17-15 to take the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Robinson had a career-best offensive performance against Rutgers-Newark, recording 19 kills on 40 attacks while hitting .400.
  • Baca added nine kills, while Sami Kline chipped in eight.
  • Halsey recorded 32 assists and 11 digs, while Emma Nkanza contributed 16 assists.
  • Madigan posted a team-high 21 digs, while Callie Wince added nine digs and a team-best four service aces.
  • Addison Dodge led the River Hawks at the net with four blocks, while Ella Lefelon added three.
  • Susquehanna finished with 61 kills against Rutgers-Newark, matching the Scarlet Raiders' total. The River Hawks also held an 8-6 advantage in blocks.
  • Against McDaniel, Susquehanna finished with 40 kills, led by Robinson's 11, while Madigan again paced the defense with 15 digs.

  • Susquehanna, now 1-2 on the season, returns to action next weekend at Franklin & Marshall, taking on the host Diplomats and Mary Washington.
