River Hawks Battle Through Two Matches at Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. — The Susquehanna University women's volleyball team battled through a pair of matches Saturday at the Mayser Center, taking on the University of Mary Washington and Franklin & Marshall College. The River Hawks earned a set victory against Mary Washington before falling 3-1, then dropped a 3-0 decision to host Franklin & Marshall.

How It Went Down
  • Susquehanna opened the day against Mary Washington and came out strong, jumping ahead early in the opening set. The River Hawks built a 6-1 advantage before the Eagles battled back, eventually taking the first set 25-23.
  • The River Hawks responded in the second set, using a balanced offensive attack to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-21 victory. Susquehanna recorded nine kills in the set while holding Mary Washington to a .000 hitting percentage.
  • Mary Washington regained control in the third set, posting 12 kills and hitting .200 to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 win. The Eagles then closed out the match with a 25-15 fourth-set victory.
  • Susquehanna returned to the court against Franklin & Marshall later in the afternoon. The Diplomats controlled the opening two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-17, before the River Hawks put together their strongest offensive set of the match in the third. Susquehanna recorded 14 kills and hit .268 in the frame, but F&M held on for a 25-23 victory to complete the sweep.
Inside the Box Score
  • Against Mary Washington, Stella Robinson, Natalia Baca and Camille Ince led the River Hawks with six kills apiece. Baca added four total blocks, while Addison Dodge recorded three blocks. Lauren Halsey paced the offense with 15 assists, while Emma Nkanza added 14 assists. Abby Madigan led Susquehanna with nine digs and Isabella Sallie contributed six digs and two service aces.
  • The River Hawks finished the match with 35 kills, six aces, five blocks and 36 digs. Mary Washington totaled 47 kills and 10 blocks.
  • Against Franklin & Marshall, Robinson led all River Hawks with eight kills, while Sallie added six kills and five total points. Dodge contributed five kills and a block. Halsey finished with 17 assists and Sallie led the defensive effort with nine digs.
  • Susquehanna finished with 27 kills and 34 digs against the Diplomats, while F&M recorded 41 kills and 55 digs.

  • Susquehanna returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Penn State Altoona tri-match, playing the host Lions and York College of Pa.
