SELINSGROVE, PA — Susquehanna University senior linebacker Brayden Nolan has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week following his standout performance in the River Hawks' thrilling 23-17 overtime victory at Union College on Saturday. It is the first national weekly recognition of Nolan's career.
Nolan anchored a Susquehanna defense that held Union to 211 total yards while pacing the River Hawks with 12 tackles. The senior linebacker added four tackles for loss totaling 14 yards, consistently disrupting the Union offense throughout the season-opening victory. His performance was instrumental in helping Susquehanna overcome a 17-7 deficit in the fourth quarter. The River Hawks scored 10 unanswered points in the final 5:13 of regulation, including a game-tying touchdown with two seconds remaining, before completing the comeback in overtime.
With Union facing a fourth-down field goal attempt in overtime, the Susquehanna defense came through once again as Jaydon Handy blocked the 40-yard attempt. Bezy Nwanonyiri scooped up the loose ball and raced 65 yards for the game-winning touchdown.
A senior marketing major from Newton, N.J., Nolan and the River Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 12, traveling to Bridgewater College for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
