SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University football team earned a pair of Landmark Conference weekly honors following its dramatic 23-17 overtime victory at Union College, as senior linebacker Brayden Nolan was named Defensive Player of the Week and junior defensive back Bezy Nwanonyiri earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Nolan turned in a standout performance in the season opener, leading the River Hawks with 12 tackles, including four tackles for loss totaling 14 yards. His four tackles for loss were the most by a Susquehanna defender in the game as the River Hawks held Union to 211 yards of total offense.

Nwanonyiri played a pivotal role in Susquehanna's thrilling overtime victory. After Jaydon Handy blocked Union's 40-yard field goal attempt in overtime, Nwanonyiri scooped up the loose ball and raced 65 yards for the game-winning touchdown, giving the River Hawks their first victory of the season in walk-off fashion.

The special teams honor marks recognition for Nwanonyiri after his game-winning play capped a wild finish in which Susquehanna erased a ten-point deficit in the final seven minutes of regulation before securing the victory in overtime. Nolan's defensive heroics were also recognized with his selection to D3football.com Team of the Week. 

The River Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 12, traveling to Bridgewater College for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
